Trump’s First TV Interview

President Trump sat down for his first televised interview since reclaiming the White House. It was held in the Oval Office with Fox News’ Sean Hannity. One major topic was Trump's return to the presidency, with Hannity asking him, "At any point, did you doubt you would be back here?"

Trump responded,It's something I don't think about... I just do it — I get it done," said Trump. "I get things done. I'm good at getting things done."

The conversation delved into his executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship for illegal aliens and focused on border security. Trump is confident he can put a stop to the ridiculous misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment despite 22 states suing him over the order. Trump also spoke about the political landscape, critiquing the Democratic opposition to his agenda and cabinet appointments. Additionally, Trump discussed the state of the economy and his vision for economic recovery post-Biden era. According to Trump, “it’s going to be a golden age.”

At one point in the interview, Trump remarked on the beauty of the Oval Office. He told Hannity that sometimes when world leaders walk in, they are in awe by the sheer magnificence of the room. Trump then voiced admiration for the adorned portraits of past presidents on the walls, such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It was a noteworthy moment in the interview, because one could see the respect and aspiration Trump expressed when discussing the legacies of the U.S. presidency.

Ending the Nonsense: President Trump continues to clean house by eliminating the following agencies and personnel as his new administration continues its transition:

  • Trump revoked the security clearances of retired Gen. Michael Hayden, a controversial figure and adviser to Newsguard (a.k.a the Censorship Cartel), a group accused of blacklisting conservative news outlets. Hayden has compared Trump to Adolf Hitler, and as a Newsguard adviser, he spearheaded the platform’s favoritism for left-leaning media while targeting conservative outlets like DML News. Hayden also dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop story as "Russian disinformation" and labeled Republicans as "nihilistic and dangerous."

  • Border Time: Roughly 1,500 active-duty troops will be sent to the US-Mexico border in the coming days to assist with securing our country from invasion. The troops will join approximately 2,500 National Guard members.

  • One Nation, One Flag: The State Department has implemented a “One Flag Policy,” allowing only the U.S. flag to fly at American outposts. The policy bans flags affiliated with movements like Gay Pride and Black Lives Matter, previously flown under Biden. Employees violating the One Flag rule face disciplinary action, including termination or reassignment.

  • The Trump administration has reassigned over a dozen career Justice Department officials, including George Toscas, a key figure behind the FBI’s 2022 raid on Mar-a-Lago. At least 15 officials will remain within the DOJ but in roles with reduced influence over major decisions. Toscas, a longtime member of the DOJ’s National Security Division, is among those affected by the shake-up.

  • The Justice Department said it would shift focus to immigration priorities, including utilizing the FBI’s terrorism task force to assist in efforts and ordering federal prosecutors to probe interference by state and local officials.

  • The Trump administration is preparing an executive order that would halt federal funding, at least temporarily, for a risky and controversial kind of research into viruses that makes the pathogens more dangerous or contagious. First reported by the WSJ, the goal of the order would be to stop scientists with U.S. funding from conducting “gain-of-function” research on viruses that could endanger human health, people familiar with the plans said. Some viruses, such as the H5N1 bird-flu pathogen, might be exempt from the order. 

  • As we first reported yesterday, in response to Trump’s executive order, the Federal Office of Personnel Management directed agencies to close all diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices by Wednesday, January 22, and place their employees on paid leave. Agencies also were required to notify employees of the closures, remove DEI-related media, cancel DEI trainings, terminate DEI-related contractors, and withdraw any materials tied to DEI by 5 p.m. yesterday. Additionally, agencies were instructed to investigate and report any efforts to rebrand DEI programs using coded language. All affected employees were placed on paid administrative leave as part of the directive.

Elon Musk Undercuts Trump: In my opinion, the worst part Trump’s interview with Fox was Hannity himself — he needs to retire, but that’s a topic for another day. The best part was when they spoke about the Stargate project. It’s a $500 billion initiative that Trump announced with tech leaders on Tuesday, designed to create 100,000 new jobs for Americans and to catapult the U.S. into the leading spot in A.I. development worldwide. Apparently, Elon Musk was not impressed.

Using his X account, which reaches over 200 million people, Musk dumped cold water on the project by claiming the companies do not have the funding to carry out the initiative. “They don’t actually have the money,” Musk wrote at 11:35 p.m. Eastern time Tuesday, replying to a post from OpenAI, the ChatGPT maker that announced the joint venture with global tech investor SoftBank Group and database company Oracle. At 12:57 a.m. Wednesday, Musk added, “SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority.”

Asked about Musk’s comments, Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that “The American people should take President Trump and those CEOs’ words for it… These investments are coming to our great country, and American jobs are coming along with them.”

In my opinion, the Trump / Musk relationship has grown too big, too fast. Although I appreciate the free speech forum offered by X, we must remember that until Election Day November 2024, Musk was a California Democrat.

Yes, Musk is brilliant, and he offers the world incredible products and services via his businesses SpaceX, Tesla, X, and a few others that get less attention but are amazing all the same. But, Musk has shown a need to be in the spotlight at all times, and if you look on X at any given moment you see that Musk makes it so his name is always trending at the top.

The above said, I feel his public undercutting of Trump’s big project announcement is sophomoric, unprofessional, and far from the sort of loyalty Trump deserves and expects. It gives the mainstream media fodder to blast Trump, and without good reason. And although Trump will play it all off as no big deal this time, make no mistake the president is not happy Elon’s remarks. I suspect the love affair between Trump and Musk just faced its first setback. As for Stargate, never underestimate Trump — it will get done.

Ross is Free: Trump pardoned Ross Ulbricht, founder of the Silk Road online marketplace. Calling Ulbricht’s life sentence “ridiculous,” Trump said granting the pardon to Ulbrich was his “pleasure” and a promise to fulfill his campaign pledge to libertarian voters. Ulbricht created Silk Road in 2011, facilitating anonymous transactions for unsanctioned items using Bitcoin until its shutdown by authorities in 2013. He was sentenced to life in prison with no parole in 2015.

Biden’s Letter: President Trump allowed Fox News reporter Peter Doocy to reveal on X the letter Joe Biden left him on his way out:

Secret Service Shakeup: President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday evening that Sean Curran will be the next Director of the U.S. Secret Service. He led Trump's personal security detail during the 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Putting Pressure on Putin: Trump threatened sanctions and tariffs on Russia if Vladimir Putin doesn’t reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. 

Keystone Revival: Alberta Premier Danielle Smith expressed interest in reopening talks with the Trump administration to revive the Keystone XL pipeline. Committed to doubling oil and gas production, Smith plans to work directly with President Trump to secure the necessary pipeline infrastructure for increased exports.

The Vivek Ouster from DOGE: According to reports, Trump’s inner circle of aides had become annoyed with Ramaswamy’s outspokenness on virtually any topic, a tendency that had also aggravated Elon Musk. Vivek also angered MAGA supporters last month when he posted a long message on X in support of H-1B visas, suggesting some American workers are lazy, and that U.S. technology companies hire foreign workers in part because U.S. culture has “venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long.”

THE CRAZY LEFT

Male or Female: The transgender community is outraged as Trump revoked a Biden-era order allowing transgender people to serve in the military.

Liberal Parental Meltdown: A New York Times report reveals liberal parents are panicked over children’s support and embrace of President Trump. This follows after The Cut’s article, “Can Parents Prevent Their Sons from Sliding to the Right?” from last year.

Liberal Admission: The day after President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Politico’s founding editor, John Harris, published an op-ed titled, “Time to Admit It: Trump Is a Great President. He’s Still Trying To Be a Good One.” Reflecting on Trump’s inaugural address, the known liberal editor wrote, “For the first time, he is holding power under circumstances in which reasonable people cannot deny a basic fact: He is the greatest American figure of his era.”

CNN in Trouble: The disgraced news network is reportedly laying off hundreds of employees as post-inauguration transformation begins. NBC News is also planning cuts later this week, according to people familiar with the matter. When you hate on Trump, and love on lies, you lose.

J.D. VANCE

Vance in the Oval Office: House Speaker Mike Johnson captured and shared a viral video of JD Vance entering the Oval Office for the first time in his life. Vance then tweeted about it: “One of the coolest moments of my life.”

CONGRESS

Democrat Delays: Senate Democrats are playing games with two Trump Cabinet nominees by delaying their confirmations:

  • Pam Bondi: The Senate Judiciary Committee has delayed the attorney general nominee’s hearing by one week.

  • John Ratcliffe: Senate Democrats have also blocked the expedited confirmation of Trump’s CIA nominee. Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut objected to a time agreement that would have fast-tracked Ratcliffe’s approval.

Revision Approved: The House passed the Senate-amended Laken Riley Act with a 263-156 vote, sending it to President Trump for his signature. The act mandates ICE to detain illegal aliens committing crimes like burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting, following the murder of Riley by an illegal alien in 2024.

Bad Advice: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) offered an X thread of advice to illegal aliens, stating, "With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important – for both citizens and non-citizens – to know your rights." She then proceeded to propose ways to subvert or pose resistance to ICE, suggesting to demand warrants and to assert “their rights”… even though they are criminally living in the country.
